Thank You, Potranco Black Rifle Company!
Against All Odds Rise (AAOR) recently hosted another transformative event of The Experience, an event dedicated to building bridges between the community and law enforcement. This event took participants on a journey of learning, unity, and action—and the Potranco Black Rifle Coffee Company team walked away with a renewed understanding of the challenges officers face daily.
The day began in a classroom setting, where participants, including the team from Potranco Black Rifle Coffee Company, were introduced to compelling statistics about police work and community engagement. This session opened many eyes, sparking deep conversations about reaction times, decision-making, and the split-second judgments officers often face in high-stakes situations.
Virtual Scenarios Test Reaction Times
Following the classroom session, participants moved to a cutting-edge virtual simulation. Here, Potranco Black Rifle Coffee Company had the opportunity to step into the role of officers, confronting rapidly unfolding scenarios requiring quick decisions. The experience revealed just how difficult it can be to distinguish threats and react appropriately in the heat of the moment. “It was a real eye-opener,” one participant shared. “You think you know what you’d do in those situations, but the reality is so much more complex.”
Immersed in Real-Life Scenarios
The event’s highlight was a visit to SAPD’s role-play town, a simulated environment designed to replicate the unpredictable nature of real-life policing. Potranco Black Rifle Coffee Company members were immersed in scenarios ranging from domestic disputes to community conflicts. Each situation demanded critical thinking, communication, and empathy—skills that officers rely on every day to navigate their duties.
“This experience was humbling,” said a representative from Potranco Black Rifle Coffee Company. “Walking in the shoes of an officer, even for a short time, gave us a profound respect for the challenges they face and the importance of understanding their perspective.”
Fostering Understanding and Trust
The Experience is a cornerstone of AAOR’s mission to bridge gaps between the community and law enforcement. By offering opportunities like this, AAOR continues to foster empathy, dialogue, and lasting connections. The involvement of organizations like Potranco Black Rifle Coffee Company amplifies the program’s impact, proving that when diverse groups come together, meaningful change is possible.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Potranco Black Rifle Coffee Company for their openness and willingness to engage fully in this journey,” said Emery Johnson, CEO of AAOR. “Their participation showed the power of stepping out of your comfort zone to build understanding.”
