San Antonio, Texas – East SideToday, Against All Odds Rise (AAOR) had the honor of sitting down with the 11th and 12th grade students at IDEA Najim College Prep, and what unfolded was nothing short of powerful. In a world where young voices are often overlooked, these students became a beacon of light — offering honesty, vulnerability, and wisdom far beyond their years.

From the moment our team walked into the campus, we felt the energy. These students were ready. Ready to talk. Ready to listen. Ready to bridge the gap.

Real Conversations at the Table

What began as a simple round-table quickly turned into a deep, sincere dialogue about community, policing, accountability, fear, hope, and the realities young people face today. There were tears, laughter, and moments where the room fell into complete silence — not out of discomfort, but out of respect for the courage being shown.

Students shared what they wish adults understood…What they feel when they see police in their neighborhoods…What trust means to them…And what they hope their future looks like.

These weren’t surface-level comments. These were honest, human conversations, the kind that remind all of us why AAOR exists.

A Generation That’s Ready to Lead

The juniors and seniors at IDEA Najim showed us something critical today:Young people are not waiting for change — they’re ready to be part of it.

They asked thoughtful questions. They challenged old ideas. They expressed real desire to work toward unity, justice, and understanding.

Their voices affirmed that the next generation is not lost — they’re rising.

Building Bridges, One Conversation at a Time

AAOR’s mission is to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community through education, empathy, and progressive dialogue. Today, those goals came alive in the most beautiful way.

Sitting at those tables with these students proved once again that change happens through connection — through creating safe spaces where truth can be spoken and heard.

IDEA Najim welcomed us with open arms, and we leave today inspired, encouraged, and reminded of why this work matters.

A Beacon of Light

To the students:Thank you for your honesty.Thank you for your courage.Thank you for reminding us that hope is still alive on the East Side of San Antonio.

Your light reached us today — and it will help guide the work we continue to do.
